Astounding Stories - 1931
Subject: Five Stars for Five Dimensional Catapults
I almost didn't read this story. After reading the first story in the magazine, The Dark Side of Atril, I had presumed ALL writing in 1931 was all dull and puffed up with needless fluff. Thankfully, that is not the case!
Skip ahead to page 74 for a rollicking adventure in the Fifth Dimension. Why is the beer-running mob boss learning non-Euclidean mathematics? What will be the fate of the beautiful other world with its primeval forest and shining city? Who will stop the "Ragged Men", those horrific beings mad with hatred? What can a theoretical mathematician do when the chips are down and people are trying to kill him?
You'll need to read the story to find out!
